In memory of
Ronald Friend Jul 23, 1935-Feb 11, 2017 Ron was born in Yakima, WA to Walter and Dorothy Friend on July 23, 1935. Ron had two brothers, Kenny and Jerry and an infant son, James Friend who preceded him in death. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Ann Marie and had four children from a previous marriage, Leslie Friend Metropol, Lt. Commander Mark Friend and Jeffery Friend and 6 grandchildren; Kristen and Natalie Friend, Garrett and Serena Metropol, Campbell and Aidan Friend as well as three great-grandchildren. Ron joined the USAF in 1953 and retired as a Captain in 1980. During that time he was based throughout the U.S. and overseas in Madrid, Spain. Ron obtained his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees while in the Air Force. Upon retirement he went to work for Sperry Univac and then Foster Farms Administration in Livingston, CA from which he retired. Ron enjoyed many activities over the years: sailing, drawing and painting, golf, tai chi, tap dancing and learning to play the keyboard. Probably nearest and dearest of these activities was learning to fly airplanes and obtaining his private pilot's license. When he was no longer able to fly due to his eyesight, he took up the flight simulator and enjoyed flying all over the world. Ron was extremely supportive of his wife's desire to become an attorney and he set up her first law office in 1996. Ron and Ann had a wonderful life together raising and caring for many cats along the way. He will be truly missed. Franklin & Downs is honored to be serving the Friend family. A service is scheduled for Monday, February 20, 2017 at 3PM at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Ave, Modesto CA with interment to follow at San Joaquin National Cemetery.
