Roger E. Larson 1927—2017 Roger E. Larson, 89, of Rockford passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017, at River Bluff Nursing Home. Roger was born March 4, 1927, to Peter and Agnes (Sundberg) Larson in Douglas County, MN. He graduated from Alexandria High School MN in 1944. Roger served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines at the end of WWII. He married Betty Ann Vogt on March 28, 1948, and moved to Rockford that year. Roger worked for National Lock as a machinist, retiring after 33½ years of service. A few years later he worked part-time at Specialty Screw for 6 years. He loved to fish, travel and shoot billiards. Roger was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign War. Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years; brothers, Daryl and Gerald; and sisters, Doris and Shirley. Roger is survived by his sister, Janice (Leon) Kaltved; daughter, Teresa Eggers; son, Brad (Mary) Larson; five granddaughters, Christine (Micah) White, Jennifer (CJ) Eggers, Alexandra (Ben) Branca, Brooke (Joel) Moore and Kathryn (William) Haun; three great-granddaughters, Ava and Londyn Moore and Anastasia Haun; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Helen Larson and Gayle Larson; special friends, Bob and Ivy Christensen, Roxanne Larson and Steve Hall. A service to celebrate Roger's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
