KENSINGTON - NASA engineer, devoted husband, and father of five, died July 27 at the age of 95. Roger was born April 26, 1922 in Eveleth, Minnesota, to Swedish immigrants Axel and Huldah Anderson. He earned a degree in civil engineering at Northwestern University in 1944 and, upon graduation, went to work for the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics, (later NASA), in Hampton, Virginia. While at NASA he worked on the Bell X-1 project, the X-15 hypersonic plane, the Vanguard rocket, Mercury, the Gemini and Apollo manned programs, the Viking Mars probe, and the Space Shuttle program. Roger and his wife Maria S. Anderson made their home in Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg, Virginia. Roger is survived by sons David, John, Douglas, and Robert Anderson and daughter Karen Denison, thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
