Rod Davis Ed.D.
Rod Davis, Ed.D. Muncie - Muncie - Rod Davis, Ed.D. died Monday in San Antonio, Texas following a brief illness. Rod retired in January after 40 plus years as a scholar and educator at Ball State University. During his career, he served in various roles as chair of the department of Business Education and Office Administration as well as associate dean and interim dean of the Miller College of Business. Although Rod was an exceptional leader and mentor, serving his department, college, and university well in those roles, his greatest professional passion was as a teacher. During his time at Ball State, Rod taught classes in Business Education and Marketing; he held himself and his students to high standards while always maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment. Rod was born June 23, 1946 in Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Kokomo High School, earned his B.S. in Business Education and M.A.E. in Business and Marketing Education from Ball State University, and his Ed.D. in Business and Marketing Education from Arizona State University. Rod was a charming, gregarious, dignified man who enjoyed travel, history, and sports -with a special passion for the Chicago Cubs, Ball State, and the Olympics. He loved spending time with his family and friends including his two kitties Stormy and Rose. He was also a member of Friends Memorial Church where he served as Financial Steward. Rod met the love of his life, Charlene, at Ball State and they married June 16, 1990. In addition to his wife Charlene, Rod is survived by his sons, Rod Davis, Jr. (former spouse, Becky) of Indianapolis, Ryan Davis (wife, Jolie) of South Barrington, Illinois, grandchildren Rachel, Regan, Tanner, Rylee, Rod III (Trey), Blake and Ethan Davis, his sisters Shirley Lee of Kokomo, Melanie Courtney (husband Mike) of Kokomo, sisters-in-law Barbara Cox (husband Terry), Muncie, Bettye Crawford (husband Joe), Muncie, Diana Zimmerman (husband Gary), Muncie, brother-in-law Richard Wilson (wife Elaine) of Jacksonville, FL and first wife Penny Davis (Indianapolis). He was a much-loved uncle to an extended group of nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Helen Davis, brother-in-law Dick Lee and nephew Aaron Courtney. A celebration of Rod's life will take place Saturday, February 18, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with calling hours from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and funeral services at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to honor Rod do so through a scholarship fund being created in his name.
