Robin S. Strayhorn
Robin Sue Strayhorn, nee Johns, 56, Catawissa, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, after a movie night and margaritas surrounded by close family and friends. She briefly battled an illness which was not to be won on earth. God saw she was getting tired and sent His angels to bring her home to suffer no more. Sue, as her family and friends called her, was born April 24, 1960, in St. Louis, to Doris "Jack" Johns, of Salem, and Ava Louise Johns, nee Woods, of Catawissa. Sue lived and attended school in Cahokia, Ill. In her professional career, she was a CNA at Calvin-Johnson Nursing Home, worked several years at Proctor and Gamble, as well as 201 Mini-Mart and Kmart. By far, her last job was her favorite, working with her best friends, Joyce and Randy Gable at SAR Training and Consulting in Catawissa. She lived in Cahokia, Ill., until 1991 where she had the first three of her five children. She then moved to Catawissa where she gained two more children through her marriage to Tommy Strayhorn. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, cake decorating, baking, hunting, and most of all, she was a loving wife, amazing mother, caring sister, gracious daughter, adoring grandma, affectionate aunt and wonderful friend. Sue is survived by her beloved husband, Tommy M. Strayhorn, Catawissa; her mother, Ava L. Johns; her brother, Jackie Johns, Creal Springs, Ill.; her five children and their spouses, Brandy K. Paul, Leslie L. Paul, both of Catawissa, Michael A. Paul, Ballwin, Mathew and Genna Strayhorn, Ladue, and Joshua and Shannon Strayhorn, Florissant; five grandchildren, Samantha, Sophia and Caleb Strayhorn, all of Ladue, Calinda and Melia Strayhorn, both of Florissant; her puppy, Shiloh, along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her father, Doris "Jack" Johns, Isabella, and her brother, Donald Johns, Belleville, Ill. Per her request, Sue did not want a funeral service. Instead, a celebration of life party was held at Kircher Park, Eureka, Saturday, Oct. 15. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
