Roberta J. Barlow
Roberta J. Barlow, 77, died of natural causes on September 18, 2016 in Early, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Floyd and Jonna Upfold, and her sister, Euna Kay Upfold. She is survived by her son, Kent D. Stoaks and his wife Lori Stoaks (Smith); former husband, Ralph D. Stoaks, Ph.D. (now Research Entomologist, Colorado State University); niece, Courtney Hastings of Woodland Park, Colorado; and by many friends throughout the states. Roberta was born October 8, 1939 in Altus, Oklahoma to Floyd and Jonna Upfold. After her graduation from Midland Texas High School, she attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas in 1957-58 and was an outstanding student. She met Ralph at McMurry and they married in Midland. They lived and worked in Norman, Oklahoma for three years where she was secretary to Dr. Max Moorhead, Chairman of the History Department, (and a Latin American specialist), University of Oklahoma. She worked in San Angelo, Texas for six years at Radio Station KGKL as a successful copy writer and in sales and marketing. Roberta was intelligent, feisty, and humorous. She returned to her hometown of Midland and worked as a legal secretary at the John Turner Law Office. After retirement, she moved from Midland to live with Kent and Lori. Her greatest pride and joy was her son. There are many people in this world through which we learn many lessons. Because of who Roberta was, her son learned how to love beautifully and without condition, to accept people as they are, to always be kind, selfless, and treat others with dignity and respect. We are grateful for her legacy. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 23, 2016 at Our Savior's Christian Fellowship in Midland, Texas.
