Robert Burdette "Bob" Toenjes, 86, of Waverly, died Oct. 10, 2016, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Clarksville, of natural causes. Bob was born on Oct. 25, 1929, in Washington, D.C., the son of David and Mildred (Breckenridge) Toenjes. He graduated from high school in Waterloo, and Iowa State College in Ames, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. On Dec. 27, 1952, Bob was united in marriage to Joyce E. Stephenson in Ames. During his lifetime he was employed by Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kan., Viking Pump in Cedar Falls, Schield Bantam in Waverly and Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp. in Waterloo. Upon retirement he restored a Stearman biplane. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Toenjes of Waverly; two sons, William (Bill) Toenjes, of Clarksville, and Bruce (Laney) Toenjes, of Shell Rock; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen D. Toenjes; and his brother, David. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Oct., 15, 2016, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Waverly, with the Rev. Judith Jones officiating. Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. The family will greet friends on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center or Cedar Valley Hospice.
