In memory of
Robert Shannon July 23, 1932 - February 8, 2017 Campbell, CA Robert (Bob) Shannon was born in 1932 in Watsonville, CA where he was raised and went to high school. There he met his sweetheart, Diane, who would be his wife for nearly 64 years. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy and being at the top of his class, chose to be based at nearby Moffett Field so that he could be close to Diane. They married when he was 20 years old and she was 18. Bob attended Hartnell Junior College and later Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo where he received his BS in Electrical Engineering. Electrical Engineering wasn't just a subject of study for Bob, it was also his hobby and his passion. He began his career working in the aerospace industry for such companies as Lockheed Martin, TRW, and United Technologies Center in Coyote where he worked on the Titan rocket engines for the Apollo space program. Later his skills naturally lead him to the semiconductor industry in the Silicon Valley where he worked until he retired. His talent was in demand and he consulted on projects all over the world which allowed him to travel with his wife, Diane. Bob's greatest love of all, however, was his family. Bob and Diane had two daughters, Victoria (Vicky) and Lynn. Bob spent all of his free time being a dad to the girls. He shared with them his love of math and science and his love of nature. He would often take them hiking or camping in the places that he went as a boy. Bob passed away February 8th, 2017 after a long brave battle with Lewy Body Disease. Despite the ravaging effects of this terrible disease, Bob remained as cheerful and as even tempered as he always was, never complaining. Bob is survived by his wife, Diane, his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn Shannon and her husband Edwin Wieser, and Vicky and her husband Jeffrey Benzing, and his four grandchildren, Evin and Sean Wieser, and Kevin and Megan Benzing. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bob's memory to the Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026. www.brainsupportnetwork.org View the online memorial for Robert Shannon
