Russell, Robert E. 9/28/1935 - 2/12/2017 Robert E. Russell, age 81, of Pentwater, Michigan, and Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Ann Arbor, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, in Clearwater, Florida. Robert (Bob) was born in Flushing, Michigan, September 28, 1935, the son of Matilda and Fred Russell. He attended school in Flushing though the 10th grade, before completing his high school career at Principia High School in St. Louis, MO, establishing a new Missouri high school single-season football scoring record at running-back during his senior year. He completed a BA in Education from Albion College, and an MA in Education from the University of Michigan. After starting his professional career in the family business, Valley Coach Lines, an inter-state charter bus company, Bob's teaching career began in Garden City, followed by Flushing, before spending 35 years as a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal in Ann Arbor at Slauson Middle School, Scarlett Middle School, and Huron High School. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed a lifetime of camping, downhill skiing, fishing, sailing, hiking, and climbing. He was also a skilled builder, carpenter, and mechanic, turning a small patch of Lake Michigan sand into a beautiful family home enjoyed by several generations. Bob is survived by his loving wife Karin Russell, son Scott (Candice) Russell of New Fairfield, CT, daughter Robin (John) Golston of Scottsdale, AZ, daughter Heather (Michael) Meyer of Ann Arbor, MI, grandchildren Benjamin Meyer, William Russell, Alex Meyer, Jake Golston, and Zoe Golston, and Karin Russell's sons Kevin Hubbell and Thomas (Tammy) Hubbell. He was preceded in death by his brother Fred Russell Jr. A celebration of Bob's life will be held in Ann Arbor this summer. In lieu of flowers, please call your Dad and tell him you love him.
