Robert K. Riley Sr.
Robert K. Riley, Sr. of East Norriton passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the age of 92. Born June 10, 1924 in Norristown, he was the son of the late John T. and Edna (nee Kirk) Riley and the beloved husband of sixty-five years of the late Dorothy V. (nee Fie) Riley. Robert was a decorated veteran, who, together with both of his late brothers, John W. and George A., served his country during World War II. Robert, who was stationed in the Pacific on the LST-84, participated in several key operations, including the Marianas Islands and Iwo Jima. His military service was a source of great pride to Robert, and made him a hero to his family. Upon his return from service, Robert built his career at the Alan Wood Steel Company. He enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, and spent much of his summers in New Jersey, where the fish and crabs didn’t have a chance. Robert is survived by his two sons, Robert K. Riley, Jr. (Gloria) and John T. Riley (Diane). He will be affectionately remembered as “Popper” to his five grandchildren, John, Jennifer, Robert, David, and Daniel; and four great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Robert’s Life Celebration on Saturday October 22, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 9:50 AM at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike 610-277-7000. His funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Norristown. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations in honor of Robert K. Riley, Sr., to the United States Navy Memorial or to the Wounded Warriors Project.
