Robert D. Rhode
Robert D. “Don” Rhode, 82, a retired Mathematics teacher, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. He was born in Holyoke on March 5, 1935, the last surviving of 11 children of the late Arthur R. and Florentine (Chouinard) Rhode, and was educated in local schools graduating from Holyoke Community College and Westfield State College and was awarded his Masters Degree. He served with the Army from 1955 – 1957, being discharged with the rank of Specialist 3C. His teaching career began in Western Mass. in 1961 including West Springfield Memorial School and Chicopee Comprehensive High School. He moved to Florida in 1972 and taught at Newport Richey High School and Hudson High School respectively and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Massachusetts and Florida Teacher’s Associations. Don was a Math whiz, studying probabilities, especially when it came to the 4-number Daily Lottery system. He was well respected by his students, known for his sense of humor and being a person who loved life and the people he came in contact with along the way. He played basketball and baseball during his college years, and was an avid fan of professional sports teams, especially the New York Yankees. A calling hour will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee with the Funeral Mass being offered at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., Chicopee.
