In memory of
Robert Chace Reeder Jr.
Robert Chace Reeder, Jr. Robert Chace Reeder, Jr., age 76, passed away at his home in Fremont Hills, Missouri on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Bob was born to Robert Chace Reeder, Sr. and Barbara Penrod Reeder on January 25, 1940 in Boston, Massachusetts. After his father's military service, the family moved to Fremont, Nebraska, his dad's home town, where Bob spent his boyhood years. Bob was a very precocious and intelligent young man, and, after a notable event which was incorrectly chronicled for many years as a meteor landing in Fremont, NE, he was enrolled in Shattuck Military School. He attended Shattuck for 3 years, returning to Fremont for his senior year in high school. He always considered his military school experience to be one of the things which made him the man he ultimately became. Bob attended Cornell College in Iowa, then graduated with a degree in chemistry from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. He attended the UNO Medical School for a year before deciding not to pursue this field. Shortly thereafter, he went to work for Parke Davis pharmaceutical company. After 4 years there, he received an offer from the 3M Company, where he began a 32 year career in the medical/surgical business unit. He retired in 2001 as business unit manager. Bob had a passion for reading about astrophysics, and followed space exploration on his computer daily. He loved upland game hunting with his boys, and they shared many fishing trips to Canada. Bob loved all dogs, and they, immediately sensing this, loved him in return. He did not trust horses, and they knew it. Bob could fix or build anything; he always needed a project to work on. Fishing was one of "Captain Bob's" favorite pastimes, especially if he could bring his grandchildren and their friends, and any other kid who wanted to catch fish, along with him. He was a scratch golfer, boasting a hole in one; a scuba diver; and an elegant downhill skier. Bob was a generous man, giving his time and his strength. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, and spent several years working with Lettie, volunteering at the Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic in Colorado. While working at 3M, Bob met his future wife, Lettie Blackburn. They were married in 1988. Together, they built a cabin in Northern Minnesota on Leech Lake, and enjoyed many summers there with friends and family - while Bob made his famous BBQ ribs and shared his fishing expertise. The world was a better and more interesting place with Bob Reeder in it. He was the quintessential honorable man. He leaves behind a legacy of love. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Jenny Reeder. He is survived by his wife, Lettie Blackburn of Fremont Hills, MO; son, Robert Chace Reeder III (Christina) of Van Alstyne, TX; son, Stephen Reeder, M.D. (Debbie) of Springfield, MO; sister, Jane Gibson (Vern) of Fremont, NE; step-daughter, Marne Gerdes of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Christina Reeder of Kansas City, MO; grandson, Michael Reeder of Springfield. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home, East in Springfield, MO. Visitation will be at 1 pm, and Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association. WWW. ALZ.ORG . ... Show More
