Robert E. Nietzer Sr. WWII Navy veteran, retired from Exxon, of Colonia, 90 Robert E. Nietzer, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully at Brighton Gardens Senior Living in Edison, N.J., on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016. Born in Newark, N.J., to his late parents Edward and Louise (Rasp) Nietzer, Robert had been a lifelong resident of Colonia, N.J. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. After many years of employment with Exxon Corporation in Florham Park, N.J., he retired as a senior staff coordinator. He was a longtime, active member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabeth, N.J. He was an avid NY Giants fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren as well as spending time down in Florida. Predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Carolyn J. Nietzer, who died in 2013, and by his sister, Elaine Seibert, he leaves behind his loving children, Kathy and Rick Spataro of Howell, N.J.; Robert and Janis Nietzer of South Plainfield, N.J., and Kenneth and Dawn Nietzer of Howell. He also leaves behind his eight cherished grandchildren, Kristen Gati and husband Chris, Jesse Nietzer and wife Nicole, Kyesha, Sean, Justin, Alissa, Brian and Samantha as well as three adored great-grandchildren, Faith and Joshua Gati and Caden Nietzer. Visitation will take place on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, N.J. 07080. On Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, family and friends may gather directly to the First Baptist Church of South Plainfield, 201 Hamilton Boulevard, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Robert will be laid to rest beside his wife in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery of Samptown in South Plainfield.
