In memory of
Robert Murphy September 26, 1944 - April 3, 2017. Robert Murphy, a Connecticut Yankee, was a recent resident of The Villa, Stamford, when he passed away from heart disease. His "ma," a long time guardian, was with him when he died. Previously, he was for many years a consumer of services from Aid for Retarded, Inc. (ARI). Robert lived independently before joining Palermo House in Stamford and participated in many different activities and jobs as part of the ARI "workshop" and the ARI family. Over the years, Robert participated in workshop activities, and devoted many hours to his love of music. As a person who enjoyed social and recreational pursuits and he had a wonderful ability to recall staff and colleagues' family names, former professions and latest news. He spoke to everyone and turned many anxious faces to smiling ones with his positive personality. Robert made friends wherever he went and is sorely missed. A memorial service will be held on April 21, 2017, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 507 Shippan Avenue at 11 a.m. All are welcome. Anyone who wishes to contribute in his memory is encouraged to direct donations to ARI and, of course, the charity of your choice.
