Robert G. Morin
Morin, Robert G. Muskegon Mr. Robert G "Bob" Morin, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in Muskegon, surrounded by his loving children and little dog Teddy. He was born July 9, 1929 to John H and Esther Morin in Gladstone, MI, and moved to the Muskegon area in 1944. He was a WWII US Navy Seabees veteran, and was instrumental in bringing the USS Silversides submarine to Muskegon, and founding the USS Silversides Museum, which is named for him. On June 17, 1950, he married Beverly Goldsmith, who preceded him in death on October 9, 2013. Bob is survived by 4 children, Rob (Cathy) Morin, Tom (Debbie) Morin, Sue (Jim) Zuidema, Julie (Dan) Steilen, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Paula Jean VanderStelt, and special friends Don and Ruth McCarthy, Alison Morin, and Anna Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and 3 brothers, John, Jr., Elwin and Donald Morin, and grandson Troy Morin. Bob devoted his life to serving his community. Among his many accomplishments are Mayor of Roosevelt Park; Chairman of the Board, Muskegon General Hospital; Director, Muskegon County Chamber of Commerce, Life Board Member, Great Lakes Division, American Cancer Society, and President of Hunter-Hughes, Inc. He received both Business Man of the Year, and Outstanding Citizen awards. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the USS Silversides Museum, 1346 Bluff St., Muskegon, 49441, visitation 2-3 pm, service 3-4 pm.
