Robert E. Kaplan
Springfield, Mass. - Robert E. Kaplan, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 86, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Baystate Madical Center. He was born in New London on Sept. 13, 1930, the son of the late Harry and Mary (Mallen) Kaplan. He was a 1948 graduate of Bulkeley High School and served in the U.S. Army from January 1949 to July 1952. He graduated from American International College in 1957, earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He was previously employed at several paper and chemical companies and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after over forty years of service. He is survived by his wife, Pearl (Silverman) Kaplan, two sons, Gary A. Kaplan and Glen T. Kaplan, and his daughter, Linda A. Jackson and her husband, Tom. He also leaves two grandchildren, Tyler Jackson and Carly Jackson. He will be sadly missed by his three cousins, Norman Kozek, Richard Kozek and Robert Kozek. Also his best friends and Bulkeley Boys, Bill Mountzoures and Dan Driscoll. The Kozek family had been blessed by having two great cousins in Bob Kaplan and the late Matthew Shafner. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, 25 Mill St., Springfield, Mass.
