GASTONIA - Robert Alton Grant, 78, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1938 in Newberry County, S.C., a son of the late Robert Frank and Lottie Mae Mars Grant. Robert was a graduate of Cramerton High School and worked in many different capacities during his career, finally retiring from Mecklenburg County. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas where he served as an Elder. He was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 704 and as a Shriner he was a member of the Keystone Kops. He was a devoted husband and loving father, enjoying motorcycling and trips to the beach. Survivors of Mr. Grant include his loving wife of 58 years, Jenny Sadler Grant; daughter, Patti Grant Duncan and husband Bryan, all of Gastonia; sister, Hazel Ramseur; sister-in-law, Kaye Grant, both of Lowell; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mendel Grant. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2107 at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas with Rev. Dr. Robert McCully officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
