Robert Wayne Chase 1934 - 2017 WEST WINFIELD - Robert Wayne Chase, of West Winfield, son of the late Sidney B. and Margaret Dewey Chase, passed away 4/14/2017 at the Masonic Care Community. He was born 12/5/1934 and graduated from West Winfield Central School in 1952, being active in music and sports. He attended Ithaca College before enlisting in the Army. He graduated from the Monterey Language School and, as Sgt. in the Army Security Agency, served as an interpreter in Korea until being honorably discharged in 1956. He worked at Chase's Garage and played string bass with the Van Sterling band, until he received his degrees from Utica College and Syracuse University. He taught at Proctor, Sauquoit and part time at MVCC until 1971. He ran Chase's Garage from 1971 following the death of his father until 1987 and was Director of Transportation for Mt. Markham from 1989 to 1995. Bob married Marjorie Armstrong on 7/3/1960 at the West Exeter Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member and past master and secretary of Winfield, F&AM 581; District Deputy of Herkimer Masonic district in 1979; member of the Ziyara Shrine and Scottish Rite; long time treasurer for the Ziyara Sandbaggers; driver for Shiner's transportation and past patron of OES 418. He was a member of the West Exeter Methodist Church. Bob is surved by his wife; son, Brian Robert (Katherine), of Symrya, GA; grandson, Brian Willard; his sisters, Carolyn (Berdell) Boss and Diane (Nicholas) Burkhardt; brothers-in-law, Robert (Joyce) Armstrong and Keith (Ursula) Armstrong; and several cousins; nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents; all aunts and uncles; nephew, Thad Boss; and brother-in-law and wife, Donald and Elnora Armstrong. Calling hours are on Monday from 3-6 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 365 West Main Street, West Winfield. Calling hours will be followed by a Masonic Service at 6. Burial will be private in the Columbus Corners Cemetery. Special thanks to Monroe and Saratoga households at the Masonic Care Community for five months of loving care.
