Robert G. Charland Born: April 12, 1925 Died: February 12, 2013 Robert G. Charland, age 91, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2017 at the Illinois Veterans Home at LaSalle where he spent his last three years. He had resided at the Timbers of Shorewood, IL. for several years and was formerly of Hendersonville, NC. He was born on April 12, 1925 in Nashua, NH to Marie (nee Desclos) and Emile Charland. Bob sadly lost his father when he was only 11 years old. Robert attended Bryant College in Rhode Island where he obtained a Degree in Accounting. A US Army veteran of W.W.II. Bob retired in 2001 from Union Carbide Corporation. He enjoyed carpentry and especially spending his time outdoors doing the yard work. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (nee Harsnett) (2003); and his parents, including his step-father, Oscar Bleau. Survived by his two sons, Robert (Laura) Charland of Shorewood, IL and Edouard ( Kristy) Charland of Lee's Summit, MO; one daughter, Mary Jane (Todd) Lutheran of Stratford, CT; one sister, Rose Marie (the late Bruce) Overton of Aiken, SC; five grandchildren, Evan, Claire, Clay, Chad Charland and Megan Lutheran; as well as several nieces and nephews. The Charland family will always remember the kind staff of the LaSalle Veterans Home for their compassion and how Dad was treated with such warmth and dignity. Funeral services for Robert G. Charland will be held on Thursday February 16, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 N. Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood, IL where all friends and relatives can gather from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
