Robert L. Abrott
Robert L. Abrott Redding, CA 1924 – 2016 Robert Abrott passed away peacefully at home October 9th, 2016 with his family members at his side. He was born in Oakland, CA. December 27, 1924. He attended elementary and high school in San Leandro, graduating in June of 1942. He enlisted in the Navy in the fall of 1942 and served actively until 1945 when he was discharged and became an active Navy reserve officer. He attended Chico State, graduating in 1950. At a later date he obtained a Master's Degree in drug abuse. In 1954 he was asked to join the faculty at Magnolia School in Redding and was in the Redding School District until retirement in 1982. His favorite subject was science and after his retirement he built rock walls at schools to help students identify local rock formations. In addition to teaching, he served as Vice-Principal at Sequoia and Principal at Magnolia. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and geologist. He passed his love and knowledge of the outdoors to his nephews, nieces, and students. Robert was predeceased by parents Andrew and Ramona Abrott and sister Ramona Frank. He is survived by his wife Mary (married 68 years), sister Sally Houston, sister-in-law Jewel Foster, 2 nieces and 4 nephews, 11 grand nieces and nephews and 19 great grand-nieces and nephews. He loved them all! Special thanks to Dr. Sand and the palliative care nurses who gave such caring and devoted service, thus allowing him to stay in his own home which was his wish. Thanks also to Norcal Respiratory for service whenever we needed them. At his request, there will be no services.
