Rita E. Niekrash
Rita E. (Kosciusko) Niekrash, 90, died peacefully Monday, October 3, 2016 in the Avery Heights Skilled Nursing Center. Her husband of 68 years, Dr. Michael Niekrash, passed away in June 2016. Rita was born and raised on a dairy farm in Grafton, MA, a daughter of Edward and Stefania (Kozlowski) Kosciusko. For most of her adult life, she lived in West Hartford, CT where she raised her family. She also worked for many years as the office manager in the dental practice of her husband in Hartford, CT. Rita was a graduate of Clark University, majoring in economics. She was a member of St. Timothy's Church in West Hartford. Always an active person, Rita was particularly proud of her golfing hole in one. Rita leaves her four children and their spouses: Michael (Regina), Christine (Bruce Koeppen), John, (Deborah), Nancy (William Budd), 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Upon her death, Rita generously donated her body to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University to advance the education of future physicians. The family wishes to thank the devoted staff of the Avery Heights Skilled Nursing Center for the love, respect, and care given to Rita. Her memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Saint Margaret, 24 Academy Street, Madison, CT. Private interment will follow the mass in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery.
