In memory of
Rita Margaret Gregory
Rita Margaret Gregory 1929—2017 Rita Margaret (Barrett) Gregory, 87, Loving Wife, Mom & Grandma passed away, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at home. Rita was born March 3, 1929 in Limerick, Ireland, the daughter of Joseph and Maryanne Barrett. She was the second youngest of 5 children. She spent the first 20 years of her life in Ireland before leaving in 1950 and moving to England. There she lived and worked in Suffolk, Coventry, and finally the Isle of Wight where she met and married William (Bill) Gregory on Oct 17, 1954 in Ventnor. Rita lived in Hong Kong and then Portsmouth, England. She also traveled to many exotic places with Bill while he served in the British army. When Bill retired from active service they settled in Stafford, England. The Gregory family emigrated to the U.S. in 1968, moving to Beloit, WI. Rita's career was a full time wife for her husband and stay at home mom for her 4 boys. She was proud to be an Irish/American and became a naturalized U.S. citizen with Bill in 1980. Rita and Bill loved to travel and visited many states and countries until Bills untimely death in 1995. Rita was a prolific knitter and made many afghans, sweaters, scarves, gloves and hats that will be used for many years and will be part of her legacy. She also loved working in her garden, but her biggest joy in life came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She spent many hours telling old Irish folk tales about leprechauns, fairies, and life growing up in Ireland. We all wondered if Rita might not be a leprechaun herself. All who were touched by her presence will miss her passion for life and her love of family. Rita is survived by sons Sean (Sandy) Gregory, Rockford, Ian (Karen) Gregory, Rockford, Paul (Shannon) Gregory, Hoagland IN, brother Patrick (Myra) Barrett of Limerick, Ireland, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by parents Joseph and Maryanne, husband William Gregory, son Mark Gregory (Earl Miller), sisters Phyllis (Angus) McKay and Maisie (Alec) Rehob, and brother Joseph (Peggy) Barrett. The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care of Rita. A Celebration of Rita's life will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th, at Rosman Uehling and Kinzer Funeral Home, 1125 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. 53511 with Pastor Ron Hoekstra officiating. There will be visitation at 10 a.m. until the service, with lunch and fellowship to follow at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. To share a memory or condolences contact . May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face.
