MIDDLEPORT — Richard B. Whited, 86, of Middleport, passed away, at 5:05 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, in the Pickering House Hospice in Lancaster, Ohio. Born July 9, 1930, in Belle, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Mark and Corda Whited. He retired from the Corps of Engineers as an lock operator. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Richard was a member of the Stewart-Johnson Post #9926 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mason, W.Va., The American Legion Post 140, New Haven, W.Va., and a member of the Pomeroy Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Earl) Capehart Gilkey, of Pomeroy, Jane Capehart Stewart, of Middleport; a son, Will (Sandy) Capehart, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Whited and two brothers. A memorial graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be provided by the Stewart-Johnson Post # 9926 Veterans of Foreign Wars. In lieu of flowers memorials in Richard's memory can be sent to P.O. Box 667 Pomeroy, Ohio 45769.
