Richard C. Talton
Richard C. (Dick) Talton, 91, of New Smyrna Beach, died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Halifax Health Medical Center of Port Orange. He was the son of the late Cullen H. Talton, former Postmaster of Daytona Beach, and Martha G. Talton, also deceased. He was a 1942 graduate of Seabreeze High School. Immediately following graduation, he worked as a Draftsman for the contractor building the Naval Air Station in Daytona Beach and it's satellite field in Ormond Beach, before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served as a Radarman aboard the USS Merrick (AKA 97) in the Pacific. Following his discharge in 1946 he enrolled at the University of Miami, receiving a BBA degree. He and his wife Constance Carter of Gardener, Massachusetts were married in 1948. She predeceased him in 1999. In 1951 he accepted a position with Chase Federal Savings and Loan of Miami, remaining with them until 1987, retiring as a Vice President. During that time he was active in several organizations, such as Elks, Lions, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross and United Way. Upon the death of his wife, he moved to New Smyrna Beach. His brother, Thomas C. Talton, preceded him in death in 2013 and he is survived by his niece, Cullen Talton Daane of Naples, Florida. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the mausoleum section of Oakdale Cemetery, DeLand. Dick requested no flowers please.
