ATHENS - Richard E. "Dick" Nisley, age 91, of Athens, died Sunday evening, March 12, 2017 at Kimes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Athens. Born March 10, 1926 in Basil, he was the son of the late Charles & Ruth Schaffner Nisley. A 1944 graduate of Liberty-Union High School, he retired as an electrician after 32 years of service from the Poston Power Plant. He was a member of Bates United Methodist Church and K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Panama Canal Zone as a Radio Technician. He enjoyed NASCAR and Ohio State athletics, and earlier in life, hunting and fishing. Dick is survived by his daughters, Zella Nisley of Athens and Vickie (Bill) Hall of The Plains; two sons, Andy (Debby) Nisley of New Concord and Scott (Christy) Nisley of Athens; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Jarod) More, Lisa (Brett) Reckert, Andrew (Lisa Gallaugher) Nisley, Matthew Hall, Erin Hall, Andrea (Steve) Schumacher and Katie (Eric) Ritchie; nine great-grandchildren, Emma and Collin More, Adalyn and Carter Reckert, Alex and Sam Schumacher, Dominic Robison, Landon and Easton Ritchie; and a sister, Donna Jean Schoffner of Baltimore. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Lorna Lou Calvin Nisley in 1972, his second wife, Alice France Nisley in 2012; and a daughter, Cheryl Nisley in 2004. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, noon, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cheryl Nisley Memorial Scholarship, c/o Hocking Valley Bank, 7 W. Stimson Ave., Athens, OH 45701. Military rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion, VFW Post 3477 and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards at the cemetery.
