Richard Eugene Lovell Preston, Maryland -Richard Eugene Lovell of Preston, Maryland died at the home of his daughter, Stephanie Irene Lee in Preston, Maryland, after a long illness on October, 9th, 2016. Born March 25, 1933 to the late Isaac Richard Lovell and Hazel Beverage Lovell, in Covington, VA, "Gene", as he was known his entire life, grew up in Halfway, MD, graduating from Hagerstown High School in 1951. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Johns Hopkins, a doctorate from University of Maryland Law School and did post-doctoral studies at NYU and Salisbury University. He married Jacquelyn Amos on June 6, 1953. He held positions at Union Trust Company, Legg Mason and Connecticut General. In 1966, he and his family moved to Maryland's Eastern Shore. Gene practiced domestic law in Maryland and was the Chairman of the History Department at Colonel Richardson High School, where he taught for 30 years. He enjoyed painting and writing and produced a large number of portraits and was known for his annual Christmas card portrait of a beloved family member. As an author he wrote over 11 fictional books and enjoyed a good story as much as the next person. Mr. Lovell is preceded in death by his wife Jacquelyn Amos Lovell, and his son, Kyle Hugh Lovell. He is survived by son Coe Howard Lovell and his wife Renee of Hebron, MD; daughter Stephanie Irene Lee and her husband Michael of Preston, MD; daughter-in-law Michelle Lovell of Hatteras, NC; son Clinton Eugene Lovell of Dallas, TX; daughter Stacey Lynn Berland of Poquoson, VA; grandchildren Holly Cerini and her husband Adam of Cannonsburg, PA, Heather Lee and Kris Reis of Franklin, NC; Melanie Lind and her husband Phil of Preston, MD; Garrett Lee of Preston, MD; Hannah Lovell of Hatteras, NC; Katelynn Berland of Poquoson, VA; and Haley Berland of Poquoson, VA. He also had 3 great-grandchildren, Kenzie Lind, Paisley Lind, Charlotte Reis, Kendall Reis and Kamden Reis. His sister Linda Farlow Bell resides in Virginia Beach, VA. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, October 21 at 1pm at Williamson Funeral Home 311 S. Main St. Federalsburg, MD. There will be a visitation from 11am - 1pm.
