In memory of
Richard Hughes
Hughes, Richard S. Richard Hughes, 86, of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully at his home where he wanted to be on Thursday, October 13, 2016. He was born on April 21, 1930 to the late Francis and Mabel (Blake) Hughes. He liked to reminisce on his childhood and told many of his favorite stories over and over again. He went to Stamford schools, served in the U.S. Army and fought in Korea. In 1956, Richard Hughes started working for the U.S. Postal service as a letter carrier. Retiring after 36 years in 1992 to make time to help take care of his granddaughter. He was the light of many lives. Richard will be remembered for his willingness to help others and his fun loving sense of humor. We will never stop loving him. Anyone who knew him knew he had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor. Even towards the last couple of weeks before his passing he was able to put a smile on everyone's face. He was admired by all who met him not only for his humor but his love for all. He always took an interest in the people he met and always tried to engage in conversation. His favorite saying was, "You get more flies with honey than vinegar". Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his son, Rick Hughes of Stamford, his granddaughter, Christina Hughes of Stamford and his sister Betty Lafave of Utica, NY. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his three brothers and two sisters and also by his beautiful wife of 48 years, Edith M. (Davis) Hughes. Together they shared endless amounts of love, laughs, and smiles. Since 2004 he has been waiting to continue their love. A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F.
