CAVERLY, Richard James May 5, 1946- March 25, 2017 Rick Caverly quietly passed away in the company of family on March 25, 2017 ending his earthly journey and beginning a new one with the Lord, and family and friends that went before him. Rick was born in Cranston, Rhode Island on May 5, 1946 to James and Mary (McCullough) Caverly. At the age of 5 the family moved to Lakewood, California where he lived until he joined the Army. Rick married Heather Thomson in 1978 and they lived in Glendale, CA. In 1996 the family moved to Colbert, WA and in 2016 Rick and Heather moved to Sequim, WA. Rick is survived by his wife Heather of 38 years and his four children: Elizabeth of Portland, OR; Daniel (Kimberly) of Corona, CA; Alan (Sabrina) of Port Angeles, WA and Doug (Shaunae) of Port Townsend, WA. He was Papa to grandchildren: Madeleine, Logan, Bridget and Arlo. Rick is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Mike) McCahan of Tumwater, WA; brother, John (Suzanne) and nephews Owen and Miles of Long Beach, CA. Rick proudly served his country enlisting into the Army in 1964. Serving in Germany and Cu Chi, Vietnam as a tank commander in the 25th Infantry Division he was honorably discharged in 1967. He continued to serve his country with the National Guard and California and Washington State Guards, retiring in 2010 as Chief Warrant Officer 5. After a long career in the construction and building industry Rick enjoyed his retirement years tutoring, interviewing Veterans for the Red Cross's Veteran's Legacy Project, traveling, taking history classes and spending time with family. Rick was a kind and generous man. His spirit is carried on in his family as they root for the Yankees, recall his Clown College stories, travel, read, golf, appreciate good food, enjoy nature, respect others, honor God, learn from history and treasure the company of family and friends. With love, respect and gratitude that words cannot express, we say goodbye to this good man, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, loyal friend and patriot. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Sequim Community Church, Sequim, WA.
