Richard Brase
Richard H. Brase Sr., 75, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his home. He was born January 23, 1942, in Litchfield, Illinois, the son of the late Otto and Elsie (Meyer) Brase. He married Mary Boccaleoni on February 19, 1966, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. She survives. He was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard, serving from November, 1963, to November, 1969. Richard was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, class of 1960. He retired from Allied Systems as a transport driver on June 20, 1999. After retirement, he went to work for First Student as a bus driver for 13 years with the Edwardsville School District. He was a member of the Carpenter American Legions Post # 1283, Edwardsville American Legions Post #199, and most recently, the Bethalto American Legion Post # 214. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Richard H. Brase, Jr. of East Alton, Marshall (Molly) Brase, Shawn (Stacy) Brase, Deanna (John) Lotter all of Holiday Shores; ten grandchildren, Susan, Elsie and Joey Brase, Dakota Parish, Jacob and Ashton Brase, Amanda and Devin Lotter, Lukas and Trey Brase; three sisters in law, Barbara Brase of Hamel, Rose Pech of Lake Villa, Illinois, Betty (Tom) Bournes of Winter Park, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and the family pet, Cookie. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lawrence Brase, Sr. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Mark Hofferber and Pastor Kale Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville with military rites by American Legions Post # 199 and VFW Post # 1299, both of Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
