Richard Wayne Ahern Aug 24,1943 Oct.12,2016 Richard 73, died after a brief but brutal interstitial lung illness. He was born in San Francisco and grew up in the Haight-Asbury, attending Dudley Stone Grammar school and graduating from Washington H.S. He had a degree in accounting from S.F. State U. and a Masters in tax from Golden Gate U. He was also an Enrolled IRS Agent. Richard was employed by Wells Fargo Credit Card Div. where he met his wife Patricia. He later worked for PG&E where he was a tax accountant. He leaves behind his wife Patricia and son Matthew Ahern (Zandy) of Littleton, Co. as well as granddaughters Keegan and Reese. He is survived by his sister Edith Strombeck (Bruce) of Scottsdale and two nieces. In the 80s and 90s Richard ran many races including the S.F. Marathon often with his son Matthew. They also climbed Mt Shasta together. In the past eight years, Richard was a volunteer at Kaiser AMC and a docent for the East Bay Regional Parks at Black Diamond Mine and Big Break Visitors' Center in Oakley. Donations in his memory can be made to EBRP, PO Box 5318, Oakland, Ca 94605 designated for Big Break Visitors's Center. He was an artist, writer with two half-finished novels in the works, a lover of nature and Richard appreciated a good Pinot Noir. Richard was a proud Irish lad who was sent off on his next journey by his family with a toast of a few wee drops of Jameson's.
