Renate English, 72, of Douglassville, Pa., departed this life at Phoenixville Hospital following a year-long battle with cancer. She was born in Witzenhausen, Germany, to the late Kurt Dall and Wilhelmine Dall of Kassel, Germany. Renate immigrated to America in 1965, and married John W. English in St. Charles, Ill., in that year. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1982. She enjoyed tending to her lawn and gardens, quilting, traveling, playing cards and watching her grandsons play football and baseball. She was an avid cook who loved feeding her family and friends. She made a mean lobster bisque. She is survived by her two children, Steven English, husband of Christian, of Douglassville, and Sandra Thomas, wife of Jason, of Lansdale; and two grandchildren, Andrew Thomas and Owen Thomas. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Günter Dall of Kassel, Germany, and Karl-Heinz Dall of Neu-Isenburg, Germany. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, with Rev. Gregory W. Frey officiating. Visitation with the family starts at 9:30 a.m., and a luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
