In memory of
Rebecca (Beckie) Otero
Rebecca (Beckie) Otero September 7, 1951 - February 3, 2017 Rebecca (Beckie) Otero, age 65, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away on Friday, February 3 in Murray, Utah due to complications related to a kidney transplant. She was born on September 7, 1951 in Pocatello to Francis (Robles) Gasper and Claudio Avila Sr. Beckie graduated from Pocatello High School in 1969, Idaho State University with Bachelors in Arts majoring in Education in 1974, Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership 1984, and her Administrative Certificate in the early 90's. Beckie married Jess Otero in November of 1973. During their 43 years they lived in Pocatello and had two daughters Felice Otero and Alexis (Otero) Miller. Those who knew Beckie will remember her as a spitfire who was passionate about education, family and travel. She taught elementary and middle school in School District #25 for 33 years and had an impact on many lives over the course of her career. She was especially passionate about literacy, spending many years teaching summer school and volunteering in her grandchildren's schools with focus on helping students to improve their reading skills. In her free time she was involved with several education organizations such as IEA and NEA, pursued many crafting hobbies (knitting, doll making, candy making, cooking, etc.), gardening, reading club, and camping. Above all, Beckie was devoted to her family and her grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil. She loved spending time with her family, cooking for them, and playing games (especially Scrabble). Beckie is survived by her husband, daughters, son-in-law RJ Miller and three grandchildren Ethan Miller, Trystyn Miller, and Korben Miller. At Beckie's request there will not be a funeral but the family is hosting an informal Celebration of Life at the Otero home for friends and family. Those who wish to share their memories of Beckie can drop by any time during the gathering between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday, February 18th. Condolences can be sent through Downard Funeral Home at https://downardfuneralhome.com/ .
