Raymond F. Wawrzynski Dec. 05, 1924 - Jan. 09, 2017 SOUTH BEND - Raymond F. Wawrzynski, 92, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 in his home. Raymond was born December 5, 1924 in Chicago, IL to the late Adam and Cecelia (Lipinska) Wawrzynski. On September 4, 1943 in Knox, Indiana, Raymond married his wife of 70 years, Genevieve (Shubert) Wawrzynski, she preceded him in death on March 16, 2014. Since then he has longed to be with her. Raymond received 2 awards from the state of Indiana for oldest caregiver as he spent many years caring for his wife which he adored. She was truly the love of his life. Raymond is survived by his children, Thomas (LaVonna) Wawrzynski, Joyce (Gene) Van Lue, Dawn (John) Jastrzebski and Christopher (Jane) Wawrzynski; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. Raymond honorable served his country in the U.S. Army where he won numerous military awards including the Purple Heart Medal, after which he served as a Military Policeman till the end of the European War. He worked for Oliver, Torrington and Bendix Corp until retiring in 1986. Raymond was a Parishioner and Eucharistic Minister of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. He was a member of the VFW 9820 and Northwest Conservation Club. Raymond enjoyed travelling with family, fishing, playing cards & gambling, collecting classic model cars and flying with his friend Don Simon. He had a great sense of humor, even after becoming ill he would still joke with his caregivers. Most of all Raymond enjoyed time spent with family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Friday, January 13, 2017 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 55756 Tulip Road, New Carlisle, IN with Visitation at the church 1 hour prior to service. Entombment and Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
