Raymond A. Van Derveer AGE: 91 • Edison Raymond A. "Doggie" Van Derveer died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 91. Born in the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick he lived in Edison for the past 66 years. He was a laboratory technician at Rutgers University in New Brunswick for 30 years before retiring in 1991. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 52 of Edison. He was also a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lyons. Mr. Van Derveer was a communicant of St. Matthew's R.C. Church in Edison and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Edison. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, motorcyclist, ham radio operator and photographer. He loved to tell a joke. While at New Brunswick High School he was a member of the football team. Surviving are his wife Mary (Furnari) Van Derveer; two sons - Raymond Van Derveer, of Hazlet and Scott A. Van Derveer of Brick; his daughter Donna M. Zamonis of Cumming, Georgia; nine grandchildren - Nicholas and Kimberly Zamonis, Heather Fulkerson and Kelly, Samantha, Jake, Skylyr, River and Searra Van Derveer; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
