August 13, 1928 - April 8, 2017 Ray passed quietly away with his best friend and care person, Carmen Crebar, by his side. He was born on August 13, 1928, in Pound, VA to Wade and Ora (Church) Hampton. Ray had 4 sisters, and 5 brothers, Delia, Jean, Virginia, Gertie, Gordon, Lynn, Claude, Frank and Vollie. When Ray moved to Raymond, WA he was a logger and would brag about the 15' diameter tree he felled that was hundreds of feet tall. He later started Emerald Pest Control, one of the first pest control companies in Lane County. He then met the lovely Lila Geneva Braun and they married in July, in 1949. He raised her two children, Linda and Larry, like his own with love, kindness and generosity. They divorced in Dec. 1990. Lila died in 2015. Ray married Susan Auforth in 1991, and divorced in 2007. Ray enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting with his brother Gordon. He was an avid artist and enjoyed painting eagles and pheasants, and also carved an eagle out of wood. Ray loved country and gospel singing. He always had a helping hand and a smile for everyone. Ray enjoyed his declining years in the tender care of his special friend, Carmen Crebar. A memorial service will be held this summer on the coast.
