Ray B. McGinnis, Sr., 76, passed away at home while under the care of New Life Hospice , surrounded by family, after a long battle with dementia. He was born on March 6, 1940 in Lorain. He attended Elyria High School and then enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1957 until being honorably discharged in 1960. While serving, he was a jet engine mechanic but also obtained his GED. After his discharge from the military, Ray went to work for Ford Motor Co., in Lorain, in 1961, working on the line, until retirement in 1985. He was a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church, as well as Moose Lodge 552, Amherst VFW, and the AMVETS Post 32. Ray enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with his wife, gardening, tending to his roses, fishing, including ice fishing, as well as hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (nee Lanning), in 2014, daughter, Jodi Horinek, grandchildren; Brandon and Marlaina McGinnis, his parents; Earl Edward and Helen Freada (nee Reed) McGinnis, and brothers; Donald and Carl McGinnis. Ray is survived by his children; Kathy (Robert) Chesnick, of Lorain, Lori (James Conkle) McGinnis, of Lorain, Ray B., Jr. (Tammy) McGinnis, of Elyria, and Mark (Becky) McGinnis, of Sheffield Lake, 11 grandchildren; Brock (Rose), Brandi (Robert), Mark, Matthew (Kristen), Brittany, Billy, Joseph, Charles, Whitney, Johanna, and Dakota, and 16 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 19, from 5:00 pm until the time of memorial service at 6:30 pm, at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Military honors will be conducted by the AMVETS Post 32. In lieu of flowers, contributions, in his memory should be made to any Alzheimers Association of your choice.
