Ray A. Herthel
Georgetown Herthel, Ray A., 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN. He was a native of Georgetown and a retired truck driver for Wintz Freightways and a member of Teamsters Local #89. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Ray was a founding member and 30 plus year veteran of the Georgetown Township Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. He was an original charter member of the Skamper Campers of America and was a Tunnel Hill Church walker. Ray enjoyed pitching horse shoes and fishing with his brother and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Joyce Hinton Herthel and Darla Hottell Welsh Herthel. He is survived by his children, Ray A. Herthel, Jr. (Pam); Terry E. Herthel (Marian); David W. Herthel; Michael J. Herthel and step daughter Rhonda Smith (Sam) and step son Gary Welsh (Sonja). His sister Loretta Backherms, and brother Charles Herthel (Susie), seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, IN. Burial will be in Wolfe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 and from 9 AM to 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home in Georgetown. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
