LANCASTER – Mrs. Ramona Mims Gunther, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at her home. She was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Darlington, a daughter of the late Patrick Henry Mims and Rose Eva Garland Mims and was the wife of the late Earle "Pete" Gunther. Mrs. Gunther retired from Springs Industries and later retired from White Oak Manor as a certified nursing assistant. She volunteered at Springs Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was always helping her friends with elderly relatives. Mrs. Gunther was a member of Second Baptist Church. She loved her church and church family. Mrs. Gunther is survived by two daughters, Susan Gunther Knight and her husband, David, of Heath Springs and Grace Gunther Roberts of Fort Lawn; two sons, Richard J. "Rick" Gunther and Sanford J. "Sandy" Gunther, both of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Ellen Virtue, Mamie Simmons, Hammond Knight, Dylan Knight, Joni Roberts Harrison, Brittany Gunther and Marley Barton; and eight great-grandchildren, Bowden Virtue, Emory Catherine Virtue, Emma Simmons, Jake Harrison, Ethan Shipp, Addison Shipp, Bailey Rose Barton and Brock Barton. Mrs. Gunther was preceded in death by three brothers, Tommy Shelby Mims,Gene Mims and Lindy "Redbone" Mims and three sisters, Mildred Mims, Sally Caskey and Betty Featherstone. The celebration of life funeral service for Mrs. Gunther is 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at Second Baptist Church by Dr. Brian Saxon, the Rev. Larry Helm, Dr. Kenneth Lance and the Rev. Rod Yow. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m., at the church; and suggest memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church, Senior Adult Fund,1426 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
