BUCHTEL - Ralph F. Skivers, 68, of Buchtel, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at the Pickering House, Lancaster. He was born May 18, 1948, in Logan, son of the late Gerald and Ann Jean Jewett Skivers. Ralph loved learning. After graduating from Nelsonville High School he also attended and received advanced degrees from Hocking College, Wittenberg University and Ohio University. He worked as an engineer for many years and was a veteran of the United States Army. He served with the 61st Military Police Signal Company in Vietnam, where he received many decorations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. Ralph is survived by his daughters, Stacey Skivers of Chauncey and Wendy Skivers of Nelsonville; sons, Ralph "J.R." Skivers of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Louie (Amanda) Skivers of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Chelsea, Ashlynn, Joseph, Alexander, Tim (Amanda), Ernie, Kaleigh and Kris; great-granddaughter, Jesslynn; sisters, Katherine Wharton of Heath and Leora Skivers of Vermillion, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald "Louie" Skivers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with the Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating. Interment will be at Whitmore Cemetery, Buchtel, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit and the United States Army.
