Ralph A. Forsberg of Ukiah, formerly of Redwood Valley, passed away October 11, 2016 at the age of 86, with his wife Valena at his side. He was born July 11, 1930 in Seattle to Allen and Marie Forsberg. His ethic of hard work began when, as a child in San Francisco during the Depression, he went door to door working odd jobs such as sweeping floors and ironing clothes. He supported himself as a teen working in the Ben Mass mill at Laytonville. Later he worked as a milkman and for the post office and as a butcher. In 1964 he started his own grocery business Farmer John's Market in Ukiah - which he operated until 1978. He then worked at Raley's Supermarket in Ukiah until he retired in 1995. Ralph enjoyed helping his wife build and operate Valena's Ceramics and Gifts in Redwood Valley. Ralph is survived by his wife of 47 years, Valena (Risley) Forsberg, son David and daughter-in-law Donna Forsberg, daughter Karen and son-in-law David Dorsey, stepdaughter Peggy Twardowski and stepson Michael Blackwell. Ralph will be fondly remembered by 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his half brother Charles Morello and daughter Sandra (Forsberg) Palacios and stepson John Blackwell. At Ralph's request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
