Rachael Pietrini Klein Naples, FL Rachael passed away at Barrington of Naples, FL assisted living complex on March 29, 2017 at the age of 96. Rachael resided in many states during her lifetime; born in Bridgeport, CT to Ugo Pietrini and Pricilla Pince-Pietrini, she was the youngest of five children. During World War II Rachael joined the Navy and worked in Washington, DC with the Navy Department. After the war she continued her education and began her career in the Ophthalmology profession, the beginning of her life's work, due to her own eye problems as a child and adult with lazy eye and cross eye problems. Rachael studied at Georgetown University and is a fellow at Duke University. Over the years Rachael worked for many renowned eye-care professionals throughout the country. During this time she found a pristine island in Florida and was able to purchase property on Marco Island. Marco would later become her primary residence until health would require she move into an assisted living facility in Naples, FL. Her husband Arthur Klein, also of Marco Island, predeceased Rachael. Rachael had no children of her own but devoted her life's work to helping the children of others to overcome their eye problems. Rachael developed and patented a device to help children overcome lazy eye and promoted education of the problem through her foundation "Eradicate Amblyopia" (lazy eye). Many on Marco may remember Rachael pestering them to donate one dollar to help "Rachael's Kids." Rachael's passion to eradicate Amblyopia never waned even in her 90's she still advocated to educate others that the problem could be overcome and a child could live a normal life with the proper care for Amblyopia. Rachael would appreciate any donations be made to her foundation via The Community Foundation of Collier County. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home (577 Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, FL 34145) with her inurnment to follow at Marco Island Cemetery.
