Prentess E. Ferrell
Dr. Prentess E. Ferrell passed away peacefully on October 16, 2016. He was born October 18, 1936, in Holly Springs, MS, to Olivia Wilson Ferrell and Herman H. Ferrell. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Thomas H. Ferrell and Marvin R. Ferrell. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Bettie Roy Ferrell and their sons Scott E. Ferrell (wife Suzanne) and Stephen R. Ferrell (wife Janiece). He is also survived by five beautiful grandchildren: Daniella, Drew, Jillian, Katie and Abby Grace.
Dr. Ferrell graduated from Messick High School (Memphis, TN); earned a Bachelor's Degree from Union University (Jackson, TN); and earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Kansas City, MO). He had special training as a counselor from the Menninger Foundation (Topeka, KS) and completed Clinical Pastoral Care Training for hospital ministry.
Throughout his career, he worked with several churches in the Kansas City and San Antonio areas as Pastor, Music Minister and Associate Pastor for Administration and Education, retiring after 50 years of service.
Dr. Ferrell served as an Adjunct Professor at Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio for more than 20 years. He also served as President of the Missouri Religious Educators Association and was active in the San Antonio Baptist Association.
He loved traveling with Bettie and treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and a skilled wood-worker. He also enjoyed fly fishing and was always ready for a good game of Bridge.
He lived life to the fullest, even while battling six different cancers over 18 years. He set the standard for living life with Christ through good times and bad. His energy and upbeat attitude were an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege to know him.
He was a wonderful, devoted husband, a kind and caring dad, and a loving grandfather.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the Wilson Chapel at First Baptist Church San Antonio, 515 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78215.
