Placide (Pop) Gagnon was born in Brunswick, Maine on August 21, 1939, Pop served in the Army, married, and later moved to Kissimmee , FL where he started his family. He was Finance Director for the Osceola County School Board and then moved to DeLand where he worked for the Volusia County School Board. After a 36 year career he enjoyed his retirement by traveling and spending time with family and friends. Pop lived in Deland for 40 years and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He and his beloved wife, Colette, recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends in Maine. Pop was an avid Gator fan, and he loved watching college football and playing cards. Pop leaves his wife Colette Cyr; daughter, Marcia Gagnon Doris and husband Bernard Joseph Doris, Jr. of Augusta, Georgia and their daughters, Lindsey and Elizabeth, son, Scott John Gagnon and wife Sarah Eaton Gagnon of Salem, Oregon and their children, Scott, Eaton, and Lillian. Coming from a family of 10 he also leaves his sisters, Eunice Gagnon, Marie Wagner, Prisca Thomson, Celeste Whitcomb, brothers, Roger, David and Gregory and is preceded in death by two brothers. The viewing is on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Lankford Funeral Home ending with a prayer service. Mass will be held in St. Peter Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 at 9:00am. A private burial will take place in Maine at a later date. The family requests donations be made to St. Peter School, 421 W. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32720 in his memory.
