Phyllis A. Scheets
Phyllis A. Scheets, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in San Antonio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 12, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois to Roy and Alvina Daegele. She met George M. Scheets, a Quincy College student, and married him in 1952. Phyllis left Quincy and adopted the military life of frequent moves for the next twenty-eight years. She and her family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1980. She devoted her life to her husband, her seven children and her many grandchildren. She also loved to play tennis, enjoyed painting, played the piano and absolutely loved the San Antonio Spurs. When her children got older and her husband passed away in 1988, she served her church community and volunteered with the St. Marks Altar Society as well as with St. Vincent de Paul. Phyllis led a full life and was a very generous person.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister, Marian Detmer and her husband, Col. George M. Scheets. Phyllis is survived by her children: George M. Scheets Jr., Stephen Scheets, Kathleen Gutierrez, Linda Waldrop, Peter Scheets, Mary Lummus and Theresa Scheets; their spouses; her sister, Joan Sturhahn; grandchildren, Jason Wasinger, Ray Guy, Austin Scheets, Nathan Loizeaux, Kristine Estrada, Rachel Waldrop, Sarah Waldrop, Christopher Scheets, Pauline Scheets, Erik Scheets, Isabelle Scheets and Philip Jerdan and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
