PHILLIP SMOCK June 24, 1943 October 11, 2016 Phillip Anton Smock passed away peacefully October 11 at Oroville Hospital in Oroville from complications of pneumonia. He was 73. Born June 24, 1943, Phillip was raised in his hometown of Long Beach, California. As a young man, Phillip graduated from Anaheim High School in Orange County. After Long Beach and Anaheim, he moved to Paradise with his parents over 40 years ago. Phillip was the owner-operator of Coronet Blue Taxi Cab driving people wherever they needed to go. One of his passengers one time was John Wayne. He dabbled also as an investor in so-called penny stocks. Later in life as his parents needed assistance, Phillip became a caregiver. He drove his parents to medical appointments, around town running errands, and other household help. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Opal Smock of Paradise. Phillip is survived by older brother Louis Smock (Jeannine), nephew David Smock (Debby) and niece Diana Gosliga (Jim). He is also survived by an uncle, Kenneth Sasseen of Texas, and many cousins; most of whom live in southern California. Rose Chapel Mortuary in Paradise is handling funeral arrangements.
