Phillip Dale Smith, 57, of Aztec, passed from this world to his heavenly home Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, in Aztec. He was born June 26, 1959, in Odessa, Texas, to H. L. "Cotton" Smith and Hylma Smith. Phillip was a graduate of Permian High school. He was an entrepreneur and had several businesses during his lifetime. He loved race cars not only to collect and work on but to race them himself. He was also an avid gun collector and could talk for hours on the history of each gun he owned. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Cotton and Hylma; and his brother, Stephen. He is survived by his wife, Robyn; mother and father-in-law, Betty and James Farley; brother-in-law, Robert and his daughter, Dusty; stepson, Jessie Shelton; stepdaughter, Nerissa Shelton; best friend, Joel and wife, Barbara Theodosia; daughters, Samantha (Josh) Tarr of San Angelo, Texas and Jacoby (Bryan) Jones of Amarillo, Texas; brother, Andrew (Beth) Smith of Odessa; grandchildren, Corey, Hannah and Finley; nieces, Haley (Jeffrey) Hibbs, Emily and Amber; and nephews, Drew, Zachery and Joshua. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Bethel Baptist Church, 201 Heiland Road in Aztec. Bob Schlauger will be the officiant for the service.
