Philip J. Scavuzzo WWII Navy veteran, active in West Caldwell community Philip J. Scavuzzo, 90, of West Caldwell, N.J., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, N.J., on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass will be held at St. Aloysius Church, Caldwell, on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at 10 a.m., followed by the interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair, N.J. Active in the community, he was a volunteer at St. Aloysius Church and a coach for the church's CYO basketball team. He also sang with the Joe Rose Orchestra. Mr. Scavuzzo earned an accounting degree from Rutgers College and was employed by Harvard Industries in Union, N.J., for many years before retiring. Mr. Scavuzzo served in the Navy during World War II. The beloved husband of 57 years of Norma (nee Bergamo) Scavuzzo, he was the loving father of Paula Kelly and her husband, Kurt, and Diane Stille and her husband, Thomas, and dear brother of Peter Scavuzzo and the late Salvatore, Joseph and Anna D'Apice, Gena Scavuzzo, Sadie Capo, Vera Marcantonio, and Baby Gena. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
