Petrita Amalia "Lily" Lopez passed away on Jan. 3, 2017, in Las Vegas. She was born in Springer on Feb. 6, 1940, to Amalia Rivera and Eusebio Jesus Lopez. She is preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings Joe and Paul Lopez. She is survived by two brothers, Manuelito and Willy Lopez of Las Vegas. Petrita graduated in 1958 from RHS, formerly known as Las Vegas High. She was employed at Swanson's cleaners, Las Vegas, Grenelle Convalescent Hospital in Burbank, Calif., 1982 returned to Las Vegas and worked at Las Vegas Medical Center, 1997 went to Hawaii where she worked on a cruise ship, 1998 to 2001 worked at Northeastern Regional Hospital, 2001 to 2002 at La Fiesta. She traveled to Bogota, Columbia, with a friend, Monica Ferrer, to Sinaloa and Mazatlan, Mexico, with Estella Valerio, traveled alone to England and Paris, France, 10 separate visits to Hawaii. On one trip she invited, Marcella Vigil. She had many neighborhood friends, and was a friend to all and mother to hundreds of the feline community. She fed and nursed homeless kittens, cats and tom cats. They truly loved her at 219 Railroad Ave., "Kitty Hotel." A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated by Father George Salazar at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at San Antonio Cemetery.
