SMYRNA - Peter (Pete) Varanko, of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday, Oct 9, 2016, at home. He was born June 20, 1930 in Nesquehoning, Pa., son of the late Stephen Varanko and Priscilla Pilip. He was a graduate of Nesquehoning HS and earned an Assoc. Degree from the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia, Pa. He enjoyed singing in the church choirs and playing bells in the handbell choir of First Presbyterian Church. He loved visiting sites like Bombay Hook to observe the wildlife. For a number of years he delivered Meals on Wheels at Mamie Warren Senior Center. His work career included American Airlines and West Vaco in Wilmington; Leeds Travelware in Clayton; and ILC in Frederica. Peter was predeceased by his brothers, Stephen and Michael; by his sister, Mary; and by a daughter, Connie. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ann; children, Luke, Judy (Chuck), Matthew (Dianne), Jay (Jeana), Michelle (Marvin), Mark (Amanda); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at 11 a.m., in First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. A visitation will be at 10 a.m. before the service. Interment will follow at Holy Hill Cemetery in Smyrna. A reception is scheduled afterwards at the church. Rev. Dr. John R. Riley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Peter's name to First Presbyterian Church, 118 W.
