In memory of
Peter F. X. Gallagher
Peter F. X. Gallagher AGE: 80 • Manchester Peter F. X. Gallagher, Manchester Township, 80, was born July 25, 1936 and raised in Jersey City where he graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School, St. Michael's High School and St. Peter's College with a B.S. in Mathematics. He was the first member of his family to graduate college. He was awarded a fellowship at Notre Dame University where he taught Calculus. Peter completed the Infantry Officer's Leadership Course in Fort Benning, GA and was assigned to train recruits at Fort Dix. He then joined the active US Army reserves at Kearny Shipyards where he completed his 8 years of service as Captain and Company Commander. He worked for the Equitable Life Assurance Society (now AXA) for 30 years. For most of his career, he managed the development and maintenance of insurance business application systems. He then joined their Individual Annuity Center continuing to oversee the annuity systems and became an officer in charge of all individual annuity operations. Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Bloomfield for over 10 years and an instrumental participant of the Parish Council Committee at St. Thomas the Apostle Church for many years. Peter's parents, William (Bill) and Rose (nee Napollielo) came from large close-knit, fun-loving families. Peter was the oldest of six children: William, Charles, the late Rose Mary Perrotti, Carolyn Weining and Thomas, with many nieces and nephews. Peter had 50 first cousins and always looked forward to the annual Gallagher picnic, which he attended for over 60 years. He was always proud of his family roots. Many of the Gallagher families summered every year in Ideal Beach, East Keansburg (now known as North Middletown). It was like an annual migration between Jersey City and Ideal Beach. It was there that he met and fell in love with his wife Jane, whose family also summered there. Peter and Jane were married May 21, 1960 and lived in East Orange and North Brunswick before moving to Bloomfield in 1971, where they raised their four children. Peter is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane, his children, Mary Bridget Lospaluto and husband Craig, Eileen Flohr and husband Henry, Peter and wife Maureen and Kathleen, and his six grandchildren: Caitlin, Ryan and Erin Flohr and Peter, Megan and Daniel Gallagher. After 27 years in Bloomfield, Peter and Jane moved to their retirement community in Manchester. They enjoyed many trips to their second home in West Palm Beach. Peter enjoyed sports (Mets and Giants) and challenging games such as poker, crosswords and game shows. He also enjoyed reading mysteries, but most of all; he loved being with his immediate and extended families. Visitation is Monday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Tuesday 10am at St John's Church, Lakehurst with interment to follow at St Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
